Staff scientist position in single-molecule fluorescence microscopy/spectroscopy of biomolecular phase separation and membrane-less organelles.
We seek an ambitious and creative PhD-level staff scientist to perform collaborative single-molecule fluorescence (smFL) experiments using a newly purchased PicoQuant MicroTime 200 confocal fluorescence microscope. This individual will support the research of several laboratories at St. Jude focused on studies of protein and RNA molecules within condensed phases that arise from liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS). The process of LLPS underlies the formation of cellular structures termed membrane-less organelles, including stress granules, nuclear speckles and nucleoli, and also is associated with pathogenesis in diseases such as neurodegeneration and cancer. This scientist will work with investigators to design and perform smFL experiments, including FRET, anisotropy and FCS measurements, to understand the structure and dynamics of molecules within liquid-like droplets, the nature of the inter-molecular interactions that underlie LLPS and the relationships between structure & dynamics and biological function (and disease). The smFL experiments will be applied to in vitro solution and condensed phase samples as well as to FL-labeled molecules introduced into membrane-less organelles within live cells. We seek applicants with experience in single-molecule biophysics and specifically with smFL experiments, preferably with PicoQuant instruments. Knowledge of molecular, structural and/or cell biology is desirable.
A Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific field is required
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant and productive postdoctoral research associate experience is required
